How does roulette work?
A ball spins around a numbered wheel and drops into one pocket. You bet on where it lands — one number, a group of numbers, or a color. Two main versions:
- European (single zero): pockets 1–36 plus 0 — 37 in total.
- American (double zero): pockets 1–36 plus 0 and 00 — 38 in total.
Zero is green, not red or black, and not odd or even for betting purposes. When it lands, the even-money bets lose. That green pocket (or two) is the casino's entire edge.
What does each roulette bet pay?
| Bet | Numbers covered | Pays | Win chance (European) | House edge (EU / US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight up | 1 | 35:1 | 2.70% | 2.70% / 5.26% |
| Split | 2 | 17:1 | 5.41% | 2.70% / 5.26% |
| Street | 3 | 11:1 | 8.11% | 2.70% / 5.26% |
| Corner | 4 | 8:1 | 10.81% | 2.70% / 5.26% |
| Six line | 6 | 5:1 | 16.22% | 2.70% / 5.26% |
| Dozen / column | 12 | 2:1 | 32.43% | 2.70% / 5.26% |
| Red/black, odd/even, 1–18/19–36 | 18 | 1:1 | 48.65% | 2.70% / 5.26% |
Why every bet has the same edge: each payout is set as if the wheel had 36 pockets. On a European wheel a straight-up bet wins 1 time in 37 and pays 35 + your stake = 36 units, so you get back 36/37 of what you bet on average. The missing 1/37 is 2.70%. On an American wheel it's 36/38, so 2/38 ≈ 5.26% goes to the house.
American tables may offer a five-number bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) at 6:1 — its edge is about 7.89%, the worst on the layout. Some single-zero tables offer "la partage" or "en prison", which halves the even-money loss on zero and cuts those bets' edge to about 1.35%. Check the table's rules screen.
What does ₱50 on red cost over a session?
- Win chance on a European wheel: 18 red pockets out of 37 = 48.65%. A win returns ₱100 (₱50 profit).
- Expected result per spin: 0.4865 × ₱50 − 0.5135 × ₱50 ≈ −₱1.35, which is 2.70% of ₱50.
- Over 100 spins (₱5,000 wagered): expect to lose about ₱135 on European, about ₱263 on American.
- Same budget, different bets: ₱50 on a single number or ₱50 on red have the same 2.70% cost — straight-ups just swing harder.
Do hot numbers or Martingale beat roulette?
- "Sampung beses nang pula — itim na 'yan." The wheel has no memory. After ten reds, black is still 18/37 on the next spin. Classic gambler's fallacy.
- "Hot numbers" on the history board. The board shows what happened, not what's coming. A fair wheel spreads results evenly only over thousands of spins.
- Martingale on red. Start at ₱50 and double after each loss. The chance of losing 8 in a row on a European wheel is (19/37)8 ≈ 0.48% — about 1 in 207 attempts. Rare per attempt, but you make hundreds of attempts. When it hits, you've lost ₱12,750 and the next bet is ₱12,800 to win ₱50. Over time the small wins and the rare disaster average out to the same 2.70% loss.
- Fibonacci, D'Alembert, "cover the table". Any combination of bets with a 2.70% edge each still has a 2.70% edge overall.
How do you play roulette on Bet88?
Bet88 is on PAGCOR's accredited list under Trojans Well Entertainment Corp. — confirm it yourself on pagcor.ph. Open only bet88.ph (or the registered bet88.io / bet88.stream) and look for roulette in the live casino or table games section.
- Check the wheel. Look for one green zero. If you see a 00, that's American — almost double the cost.
- Read the rules (i) screen. Note min/max bets and any la partage rule or multiplier feature. Multiplier variants change the straight-up payout, so their edge differs from the table above.
- Live or RNG. Live-dealer wheels stream a real spin; RNG roulette uses software. Same math if the layout and payouts match.
- Bet slowly. Live tables spin roughly once a minute or so; RNG can go much faster.
